MEET HELEN

Born and raised a farmer’s daughter, Helen Bukulmez is a proud Kentuckian who calls the community of Paint Lick in Garrard County home. As a lawyer, Helen gives voice to the voiceless, passionately representing Kentuckians across the state seeking recovery for injuries wrongfully done to them and for clients looking to preserve their civil liberties and freedoms under the laws of the United States.

Prior to earning her law degree from Northern Kentucky University’s Salmon Chase College of Law, Helen attended the University of Kentucky, and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Economics. She is also certified by Queen Mary University of London (England) in Global Arbitration Law and Practice, which adds to her legal skills to effectively mediate, negotiate and find creative solutions to otherwise lengthy and costly litigation matters.

“These people are my neighbors. Neighbors are my family. And I love my family more than anything.”

As a farmer’s daughter, Helen grew up bailing hay, herding sheep, feeding cattle, goats, and chickens, planting and harvesting wheat, corn, vegetables and fruit, while helping her family sell produce at various farmers’ markets. Her childhood as a farmer formed her values – hard work, dedication, persistence and integrity. That played a key role in her decision to settle in Garrard County where she is surrounded by some of the best and most hard-working people, including farmers.

Helen is very proud to have raised her son in Kentucky, who graduated from the University of Louisville’s School of Medicine, and is currently completing his orthopedic surgery residency.

Helen is engaged to be married to a police officer, who is also an Army Infantry Air Assault Veteran (101st Airborne). As such Helen is uniquely aware of the needs of our military veterans and law enforcement personnel.

Helen has taken every opportunity to serve her fellow Kentuckians. Whether it is helping prepare packages at Military Missions to be sent to our soldiers abroad, volunteering to draft wills and estate planning for first responders, drafting bills and helping organize conferences to promote transparency and improved patient safety at HealthWatch USA, teaching Marketing and Project Management classes to young lawyers at NKU Chase College of Law, or advocating for her clients in and outside of the courtroom, her priority has always been contributing to the well-being, protection and prosperity of her neighbors, communities, and clients.

ISSUES

As your State Senator, I will be guided by our Constitution and the principles of individual liberty and limited government. As an attorney, I’ve dedicated my entire professional career to fighting for injured workers and defending our individual liberties. As state senator, I will protect our 2nd Amendment rights and ensure every family has the freedom and the opportunity to pursue their American Dream.

In the State Senate, I will be a fierce advocate for public education, our teachers and support personnel. Unlike my opponent who supports taking your tax dollars from our public schools and using them to subsidize wealthy families to send their children to elite, private schools in Lexington and Louisville, I strongly oppose it. I will advocate and work hard for our public school resources so that our children can have access to good education, affordable college, trade programs, and technical education, creating a competitive, brighter future for us all.

Growing up as a farmer’s daughter and then a single mom who worked hard to make ends meet, I understand the struggles working families and rural farm communities face. As state senator, you can count on me to champion the needs of our farmers, working families and small businesses. I will work hard to build better roads, fix our bridges, develop better water, sewer and electrical systems, and expand broadband Internet so that our district can attract and support businesses, creating a more prosperous future for us all.

I am pro-life. As state senator, I will work to reduce abortions. My opponent supports a state government mandate/law that forces women to give birth – without any exceptions, including rape. I oppose such unconstitutional laws. Instead of using the government to control women, I will fight to empower them.

As a proud first-generation American, I was blessed with the opportunity to come to the United States of America over 20 years ago and become an American citizen. I strongly oppose any notion of ‘open borders’ or ‘catch and release.’ Immigrants have always been welcomed in America, but they must follow our immigration laws, without exception, just like I and every other legal immigrant before them.
